Grant Williams Family Foundation - A Year in Review 2023

Your doorway to mentorship, financial literacy, the arts, technology, and educational reform.

As 2023 draws to a close, we at the Grant Williams Family Foundation (GWFF) reflect on a year marked by significant milestones and heartwarming successes. Our journey this year has been a testament to our commitment to empowering communities through mentorship, financial literacy, and educational reform.

2023 Highlights

  • Celebrating Success: We honored six inaugural mentees with $4000 scholarships each during our Award Banquet on June 22, 2023. This pivotal moment marked not just the achievements of these bright individuals but also the fruition of our dedication to nurturing young talent.

  • Expanding Educational Opportunities: In collaboration with HoopTee Charities and Providence Day School (PDS), we launched a groundbreaking initiative to sponsor full tuition, activities, and fees for two underserved boys and two girls to attend grades 9-12 at PDS. This partnership is a stride toward making quality education accessible to all.

  • Pioneering in Computer Science: January 2023 saw the launch of our Inaugural GWFF Live To Learn Computer Science Middle School Pilot program at Walter G. Byers School. This after-school initiative in West Charlotte, NC, is designed to introduce underserved middle school students to the world of computer science, continuing into Spring 2024.

  • Community Outreach and Sports: We organized our inaugural free basketball camp in West Charlotte, reaching out to approximately 100 students. This initiative was complemented by our international basketball camp in Cameroon, furthering our global reach.

  • Empowering through Sports and Education: Our inaugural charity golf tournament significantly expanded our scholarship program, and we saw our first recipient, PDS-David Saunders Jr., mentored privately by Grant himself.

  • Support for Foster Care Children: We partnered with NASCAR Hall of Fame to extend our outreach to foster care children and those in the care of Miracle Houses, Inc., emphasizing our commitment to inclusive support.

  • STEM/STEAM Initiatives: Our dedication to STEM/STEAM programming in the Charlotte community was highlighted through field trips to TIAA-Charlotte and NASCAR Hall of Fame, with future trips to UNC Charlotte and HBCU JCSU planned.

Impact Metrics

  • Growth in Mentorship: From one mentee in Charlotte in 2019 to four in 2023, plus six Boston mentees since 2020.

  • STEM/STEAM Expansion: 40 students in grades 6-8 participated in our program, with about 50 in-school meetings and two field trips.

  • Community Reach: Approximately 700 people were served through our programs in Charlotte, Dallas, Boston, Oakland, and Cameroon.

Path Forward - 2024 and Beyond

Looking ahead, we are excited about the continuation of our Computer Science and Financial Literacy programs, expanding into new regions and schools. Our second annual basketball camp and charity golf tournament are already on the horizon, promising even greater outreach and impact.
